With the rugged coastline of the Wild Atlantic Way by your side, the roar of the Atlantic Ocean echoing in their ears and moody skies overhead, the Star Wars crew knew they had found the perfect location to tell the next chapter of the Star Wars saga.

The Wild Atlantic Way was so otherworldly that the scouts knew immediately they had to give it a starring role in one of the biggest films the world has ever seen. Star Wars: The Force Awakens smashed box office records and introduced the world to the shard-shaped island striking out from the Atlantic off the coast of Kerry: Skellig Michael – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was once home to 6th century monks.

Escape to the Wild Atlantic Way

When the crew returned to film Star Wars: The Last Jedi, more locations between Cork and Donegal doubled as Luke’s Island in The Last Jedi, showcasing the raw beauty of this 2,500km long coastline. From Malin Head, the very tip of Donegal, to the cliffs of Loop Head, and the rocky shoreline of County Cork, Star Wars: The Last Jedi continued the story of Rey and Luke as they battled to save a galaxy far, far away…

While filming, the cast and crew made the west coast their home. Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley became familiar faces to the locals in County Kerry, where they learned to pull pints and joined in the traditional music sessions with the locals. Afterwards, the cast and crew extolled the beauty of the surroundings, and the warm welcome they received from the locals wherever they filmed, and LucasFilm took out no less than eight thank you ads in local newspapers up and down the coastline!

...the enthusiasm and support of all the people of West Cork have made our Irish adventure one we will always treasure.
