Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA)

Nestled in 48 acres of land in the heart of Dublin 8, IMMA’s home is the historical site of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, with its accompanying formal gardens and a large meadowland. IMMA is an open campus that creates a space where contemporary life and contemporary art connect. Visit a wide range of exhibitions featuring the work of leading Irish and international artists with IMMA’s own collection of art, including the Freud Project, a major exhibition by one of the greatest realist painters of the 20th century, Lucian Freud. The IMMA programmes are open to all, and include gallery-based tours and workshops; studio- based programmes in the artists’ residency studio block; talks, seminars and artist-led events. During your visit explore the IMMA shop, take a stroll through the 17th century formal gardens and relax in the IMMA Café. IMMA is open to the general public 6 days a week. The museum is closed on Mondays, except Bank Holidays. Entrance to the museum and grounds are free, with a small charge for special exhibitions. (These paid exhibitions are free to all on Tuesdays, but advanced booking is advised.) The informal guided tours provide a great general introduction to current exhibitions. These 30-minute tours take place on Wednesdays at 1.15pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2.30pm. No booking is required, you can just come to the Meeting Place in the Main reception. Otherwise, the visitor engagement team are available to answer questions about the art. Facilities include family workshops, family activity pack and locker rooms. IMMA is wheelchair accessible with a large car park.
