The lively traditional, natural, homely character of Killarney’s beloved establishment is matched only by its coveted reputation for good food and traditional music venue. Murphy’s Bar has people returning again and again. Established in 1955, Murphy’s Bar is a traditional Irish public house of world renown. Its stone built walls, wooden beams and local historic decor create an atmosphere which attracts locals and visitors alike. The pub serves an extensive menu, serving traditional dishes such as Bacon and Cabbage, Beef and Guinness Casserole, Irish stew and prime Irish steak. Their seafood options are equally mouth-watering, with Kerry mussels, sea bass and fresh oysters to choose from. The desserts are homemade pies, cakes, fresh fruit and ice creams. Peg’s cheeseboard offers a fine selection of quality Irish cheese. The interior of Murphy’s is unique and very traditional. Pitch pine taken from an old church has been re-crafted and used throughout the bar. This, combined with stained cathedral glass exposed stone work and a collection of mementos and many fascinating photographs collected by the owner, adds to the cosy ambience of the interior. The business incorporates Squires next door and the highly acclaimed restaurant overhead known as Lord Kenmare’s. Murphy’s guest accommodation combines great hospitality in a superb town centre location, offering the visitor twenty spacious rooms, all en-suite, with elevator access. The owner, Seán, is a keen sportsman and President of the Murphy’s Golf Society, which is one the most respected societies in Kerry. Each year Murphy’s organize an exciting Darts Tournament, the largest of its kind in Munster. The Killarney Races also features highly in the sports calendar of Murphy’s bar. Traditional music takes place here on Friday and Saturday nights throughout the year, starting at 9.30pm. Murphy’s pub is located in the heart of Killarney town. Due to this ideal location, all amenities including shopping, entertainment, sports activities and Killarney National Park are within easy walking distance.
