Killybegs Maritime & Heritage Centre

The Killybegs Maritime & Heritage Centre is situated at the famous Donegal carpets building, where world famous hand-knotted carpets are made. These world class Donegal Carpets can still be seen in such places as Dublin Castle, The Oval Room at the White House, the Vatican, Buckingham Palace, stately homes, and foreign embassies throughout the globe. Come to see the largest hand-knotted loom in the world, view live demonstrations of how hand-knotting is done, and also have the opportunity to test your own skills at the loom. Enjoy a hands on experience in a life sized wheelhouse, similar to those on the local fishing vessels, fitted out with an array of electronic navigational fish finding and communications equipment. There is also a collection of paintings, photos and artefacts on display. Be assured of a warm welcome to the Killybegs Maritime & Heritage Centre. The centre tour takes approximately one hour. It offers a fascinating audio visual insight into the history of the fishing and hand-knotted carpets.
