See what Ireland has in store for you
How many places can you get a haircut and explore the golden age of steam travel at the same time? The Johnston family’s decision to combine their traditional barbers skills with their interest in local railway history has led to one of the most unique and fascinating attractions in Northern Ireland. Today, Headhunters Barber Shop & Railway Museum boasts one of the largest collections of Irish railway memorabilia on display. Starting at the reconstructed booking office, where the ticket collector invites you to step on board, your journey recreates railway travel through Fermanagh and the border counties until the closure of the lines in 1957, with lovingly created exhibits like the Station Master’s office, booking office and signal box. You’ll find an absorbing range of memorabilia including uniforms, signalling instruments, signs, lamps, tableware, timetables, tickets and photographs from the three local railway companies – The Great Northern Railway(Ireland), The Sligo Leitrim & Northern Counties Railway and The Clogher Valley Railway. Whether you are a railway enthusiast or just a child who loves the adventures of 'Thomas The Tank Engine', why not combine your visit with a unique opportunity to have your hair professionally styled in the most nostalgic of surroundings! Admission to the Railway Museum is free and haircuts are optional. Find out more and book now >>> 'This potentially award winning museum is a rare treat for anyone, whether they have links with the county, the railways or simply love history. A trip to Headhunters Barber Shop will certainly provide a sense of wonder and until now it has been one of Fermanagh's best kept secrets!' - Newsletter 'Where else can you get a short back and sides while brushing up on your railway knowledge?' BBC Countryfile Magazine 'It's a barber shop and it's a museum! Find out about a place in Fermanagh where you can get a quality haircut, then step back in time as you go through the old fashioned railway ticket office' Culture24
