See what Ireland has in store for you
If you are looking for an enjoyable and interesting day out you should visit The Steam Museum and Lodge Park Walled Garden, Straffan. The Steam Museum is housed in the Victorian Gothic church building moved from Inchicore in Dublin which was originally used by railway engineers. The Power Hall displays six huge nineteenth century stationary engines, which are steamed up during the season or by appointment. The Model Hall displays the Richard Guinness Collection of early large size Prototype Railway Models and more exhibits are added all the time. Lodge Park Walled Garden adjacent to the museum is a restored 18th Century walled garden consisting of a box-edged and yew central path, giving on to a series of smaller gardens of rare plants, shrubs, vegetables, fruit, herbaceous borders and a spectacular circular Rosarie. The Entrance Shop sells items of steam and garden interest and The Steaming Kettle Teahouse provides delicious homemade delights and also can cater for pre-booked parties. The Steam Museum and Lodge Park Walled Garden are situated equidistant (5kms) between two major arterial roads, the N7 & N4, and are only 15km from Dublin City Centre so quick and easy to get to. As there are two attractions in the same place with a Gift Shop and the Steaming Kettle Tearoom, it makes for an exciting and fun packed day out for all the family.
