See what Ireland has in store for you
Established in 1723 on the banks of the Avoca River, Avoca Mill is the oldest working weaving mill in Ireland. Visitors can take a guided tour to see where Avoca’s signature throws, blankets and scarves are created. Tour guides tell the story of Avoca Mill and bring the group on a fun and informative visit with a demonstration on the antique flying shuttle loom. Visitors will learn about the history of Avoca and the craft involved in each step of the weaving process, reflecting the care and tradition Avoca pour into each new piece of fabric. Avoca Mill is full of local craftspeople, many of whom have been working there for generations and whose family members can be seen in old photos in the memorabilia room. A visit to Avoca Mill is never complete without a look around the colourful retail store with its collection of woollen mill products, clothing, giftware and accessories, all crafted with a touch of Irish charm. Visitors can then treat themselves in the Avoca café that serves a selection of freshly baked cakes, scones and delicious homemade lunch dishes. With plenty of parking available on site and beautiful views of the river and nearby Mount Usher Gardens, Avoca Mill is well worth a stop.
